AMCL Water Sector Lead Matthew McConville revisited his collaboration with colleagues from RPS (a Tetra Tech company) as part of UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) project to develop a framework for intervention optimisations over 10-to-25-year planning horizon to increase system resilience to interruptions to water supply.
We supported a literature review to best evaluate the academic research alongside company submissions and case studies. We then collaborated with the working group across several workshops to prioritise the factors that the water companies felt were most influential on better evidence-based long and short-term decision-making in the sector. We co-created a summary report detailing the pragmatic framework we’d developed that supported some of the sectors optimisation challenges.
The framework integrates key data inputs, predictive modelling outputs and prioritisation criteria into a cohesive decision-making process. This will help guide water companies when identifying the most important interventions enabling optimised resource allocation and risk minimisation.
