Graduate Profile:
Charlotte Tang

I joined AMCL as a graduate in 2020 after graduating with a Chemistry degree. Although a career in asset management was not a typical career path to follow with a Chemistry degree, the problem-solving and analytical skills that I developed through my degree aligned well with the consultancy role.

As a Junior Consultant, I immediately got stuck in with projects across a range of sectors and was given an increasing amount of responsibility over the year as I continued to develop my technical skills and asset management knowledge. I progressed to a Consultant role after one year and started to lead activities in a wide range of data-related projects.

Q. What specialist skills or experience do you have?

I would say that having strong attention to detail and good communication skills are both very helpful when starting out as a junior consultant. Before joining AMCL I had no asset management experience, but I was eager and determined to learn which I think is the most important thing.

Q. What has been the best opportunity at AMCL so far?

The best opportunity I have had since joining AMCL has been relocating to New York for a secondment. I supported the North American team from the UK for 9 months before I was given the opportunity to head to New York to continue working on the project alongside several other exciting projects. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with a different AMCL territory and learning about the US client base which has enabled me to further expand my skillset and gain valuable experience working abroad.

Q. How has AMCL supported you in the first few years of your career?

The entire AMCL team have been incredibly supportive in the first few years of my career. Across all levels of the business, the team have been willing to share knowledge and teach the graduates about the industry whilst also supporting them through the asset management qualifications. I feel incredibly lucky to have begun my career at AMCL as I have been given a lot of responsibility and opportunities on projects whilst still having support from more senior members of the team. Furthermore, the graduate programme has a very clear structure which has provided transparency about what to expect during the programme.
