Project Summary

As part of a broader Asset Management Transformation programme for a UK-based electricity generating company, AMCL supported the organisation in developing Risk Based Maintenance (RBM) regimes for a range of their electricity generating and gas storage assets, including hydro, wind and gas-powered generating plant. The engagement included:

  • The tailoring of the RBM process in consultation with the organisation’s stakeholders which has the potential to enable them to develop and justify changes to maintenance regimes based on cost-risk optimisation principles
  • The configuration of Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Cost-Risk Optimisation (CRO) approaches to enable the process;
  • Facilitating pilot studies as a proof of concept for the approach
  • Supporting SSE in plans for adopting the approach

Through the targeted pilot study of Hydro Generation assets, we were able to help the local team identify potential cost-saving through increasing intervals in legacy maintenance activities.


Project Summary

AMCL recently worked with one of the world’s major international airports to help them optimise their maintenance approach, ensuring it was demonstrably driven by their corporate needs and objectives, providing the organisation with the frameworks, tools and techniques to ensure maintenance activities were optimised and efficient. This included:

  • Undertaking an overall Asset Management maturity assessment to gauge the organisation’s level of maturity and integration.
  • Completing a review of international airport and general industry maintenance best practice.
  • Developing a criticality analysis to help prioritise maintenance analysis plans.
  • Developing a maintenance strategy framework to help select the most appropriate analysis techniques to use for each asset type (for example, RBM, FTA or RBD).
  • Supporting the organisation to plan and complete an improvement program focused on Reliability Centred Maintenance, (RCM), Fault Tree Analysis, (FTA) and Reliability-Block Diagram, (RBD) techniques.
