Describe your journey to AMCL.

I was working as an Asset Performance Management (APM) technology solution implementation consultant when I came across AMCL’s name for the first time. I was delivering Root Cause Analysis (RCA) training for a client in transportation at their headquarter office, and I saw a wall to wall print of their business architecture map with information flow and the AMCL logo in the bottom corner of it. I set aside my prepared slide deck and used that map to draw their attention to which business capabilities can be touched by implementing an APM solution and its required information. I thought to myself, this is what every organization needs to know about themselves before embarking on any technology implementation.

What project(s) are you currently working on?

Currently I am working with our utilities sector clients in Canada and providing advisory service on technology modernization as part of their Asset Management journey.

How are you supporting clients with Asset Performance Management, and what are the most common pitfalls you see?

The most important point that I always emphasize is to consider “Asset Performance Management” as more than just a technology implementation project. APM first and foremost is a new process implementation and requires a very conscious approach toward people change management. Therefore, APM must be considered a program and be managed and budgeted as such to be successful. With a program design that looks to achieve early quick wins for business stakeholders.

Also, considering new technology advancements and a desire to have more data-driven Asset Management decision making, I encourage our clients to consider implementing APM processes as an effective way to shed light on their asset “dark data” and its quality. The data which they collect during their routine maintenance and operation activities but fail to derive insights from. APM if implemented effectively can make their asset condition data collection a purposeful activity that shortens their data to insight cycle time and expedites their digitalization or digital transformation of their Asset Management practices.

What is something fun and/or interesting about you that your colleagues may not know?

I have climbed Kilimanjaro and trekked to Everest Base Camp. I love mountain climbing but not because of how much I like the beautiful scenery and the travel experience. It’s because I am really afraid of heights! For me, the feeling of being proud of myself for finally getting back down (hours later than the rest of the team) has always been more than the thrill of reaching the summit.
